M.A.R.S Technical Specialist Jason Buyukozer shares how a dental practice saved money by having their Hg5 removed and a LibertyBOSS installed.
LibertyBOSS Installed to Save Money after Using Hg5
The following is an evaluation and installation video of a 3 chair practice with a SometeX Hg5. The owner of this practice has two dental practices. One year ago the doctor switched one of his practices to a LibertyBOSS. A year after he has his first LibertyBOSS installed, the doctor noticed the maintenance cost of the SolmeteX Hg5 was significantly higher than the cost of the LibertyBOSS. Once the Dentist realized the cost savings, he called M.A.R.S to have a LibertyBOSS installed at his second office.
Below is an analysis of the removal of the Hg5 and installation of the LibertyBOSS.
Clogged Upper Chamber
The Hg5 canister had been changed 2 months prior to having the LibertyBOSS installed. Unfortunately, the Hg5 canister wasn’t being serviced by an M.A.R.S Certified Amalgam Separator Specialist. When the canister was changed, the upper chamber dropped to fill the new canister. As mentioned in the video, the Technician should have checked the upper chamber before changing the Hg5 canister. The Dentist should have been notified about the chance of a quick canister fill before a new canister was installed. Because the Technician didn’t notify the Dentist, it ended up costing the Practice $500 for an Hg5 canister that most likely filled within a week.
1) Visit the M.A.R.S. Preventative Maintenance Page to see how to unclog an Hg5. Have an extra canister on hand, as the current one will fill within a week.
2) Replace the Hg5 with a LibertyBOSS. The recycling of the Hg5 is included with the purchase of a LibertyBOSS.
A typical problem with the Hg5 is a Plumber is usually hired to install the system. This is where you will typically find an unnecessary use of 90-degree elbows. In this particular installation, you will notice the installer used SIX 90-degree elbows. Each elbow creates friction, which causes a strain on the suction pump.
Remove as many elbows as possible and replace the hard pipe with flexible PVC. The flex PVC will reduce the need for elbows as it allows for gradual bends. As you can see in the video, we were able to remove 5 out of the 6 elbows used in the original installation.
SolmeteX Canisters not Recycled
It seems to be a common issue this past year for pre-paid SolmeteX filters to be left without being picked up for long period of time. In Ontario, it is legally required to have an expired amalgam separator removed from the office by a licensed courier or recycler within 90 days.
Call the recycler who you have pre-paid to recycle your used amalgam separator to come pick them up or demand a refund so you can have it done elsewhere. With an M.A.R.S LibertyBOSS, there is no need for concern because of the M.A.R.S Warranty Card Program. This Program ensures that the Dental Practice receives the required information to properly dispose of your expired LibertyBOSS.
